Dates and details for this year’s are beginning to emerge, so it can be beneficial to give yourself a game plan before the holidays, especially when some auditions will start as soon as the first week of January.
Companies today vary greatly in how they run their audition season. Some, like Oklahoma City Ballet, are doing the traditional audition tour to seek out both summer intensive and professional hopefuls. Meanwhile others, such as Ballet Idaho or Oregon Ballet Theatre, conduct closed auditions by invitation only. And that doesn’t even encompass the process of auditioning for companies and projects abroad.
Regardless, there’s a lot to think about, and though it can be advantageous if you can get into company class, you won’t always be offered that opportunity. Auditioning can be overwhelming; it is a nightmare to sift through and juggle overlapping dates and locations.
